Children’s Art Workshop (CAW)

CAW and CAW Jrs: children ages 6 – 12 years old

Led by DAI volunteer Maha alEssa, the Children’s Art Workshop (CAW) for children ages 9 – 12 and CAW Jrs for children 6 – 8, is something special this season.  From October – December, the children who joined the CAW programme last year will finish their new exhibition, A Home for Comforting Words: Calligraphy in The al-Sabah Collection. We will have a short, project based programme that runs from January – March. As always, in addition to the art and culture based efforts, the programme is designed to help participants further develop leadership, critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication skills.  The sessions are held most Saturdays from 9:30 – 11 AM at the Amricani Cultural Centre.

CAW Tots: children ages 3 – 5 years old

CAW Tots, Amricani Cultural Centre’s programme for potty-trained children ages 3 – 5, takes one subject and concentrates on it for four weeks.  This season the kids will explore contemporary artists, pre-Islamic art, and imagination. They will use objects in the collection, other art, children’s books, and discussions to reinforce key ideas. Built around the Harvard University Graduate School of Education “Artful Thinking Palette”, the kids will learn by observing and describing, comparing and connecting, questioning and investigating, finding complexity, exploring viewpoints, and reasoning.

DAI Minis: children ages 18 months – 3 years old

The DAI Minis programme is for children between the ages of 18 months and 3 years old, with a family member.  Each monthly session will include exploring objects of art, storytelling and some kind of play/craft activity.  The sessions will be held one Saturday per month at the Amricani and one per month at Yarmouk. The kids have fun learning and playing with each other and, it seems, so do the parents.
