Amricani Cultural Centre

This season, the Amricani Cultural Centre offers a remarkable journey through time and culture. Six exhibitions and multi-media presentations illuminate Kuwait’s history, the wider Islamic world, and the heritage of ancient civilisations. Admission is free, welcoming all to explore.

Story of the Amricani
This multi-media exhibition tells the story of the Amricani building itself, from its construction and early role as a missionary hospital in the early 20th century to its transformation into a cultural centre. It highlights how the building has remained a symbol of service and community throughout Kuwait’s history.

Modern Architecture of Kuwait (1949–1989)
Presenting 150 projects designed, constructed, or commissioned during Kuwait’s post-war boom, this exhibition reflects a pivotal era of architectural innovation. Organised by architects Roberto Fabri, Ricardo Camacho and Sara Saragoça Soares, it is accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue and a companion volume of essays, interviews and reflections on Kuwait’s modern architecture.

Home of Kind Words: Calligraphy in The al-Sabah Collection
The third children-curated exhibition at DAI, directed by Mrs Maha al-Essa, celebrates calligraphy through artefacts that carry untold stories and meaningful inscriptions. With creativity and imagination, the young curators created the story of Sarah and Abbas, weaving together words, blessings and heritage.

Dawn of History
This exhibition showcases artefacts collected by the late Sheikh Nasser Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah (1948–2020), spanning Prehistory to the Early Bronze Age. Objects from Egypt, the Indus Valley, the Levant, Anatolia and Mesopotamia illustrate the interconnectedness of ancient civilisations and the foundations of human culture. Developed in collaboration with Kuwait University, the exhibition also contributed to the establishment of postgraduate studies in Ancient History and Archaeology.

Art of Ancient Arabia: Heritage of Our Ancestors
This exhibition presents rare artefacts from The al-Sabah Collection, highlighting the development of Arabic script, the rise of early Arab kingdoms, trade networks and the role of women in society. It also explores South Arabia’s cultural connections with Persia, Byzantium and Mesopotamia, offering a deep insight into the heritage of the Arabian Peninsula.
