Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah (The al-Sabah Collection) held the exhibition “Arabia Felix to Rome: A Passage on Three Seas” at the Amricani Cultural Centre. Drawing on the pre-Islamic collection of The al-Sabah Collection, the exhibition explored the cultural and commercial connections between South Arabia and the Roman Empire from 1200 BCE to 700 CE.
The exhibition showed how Yemen served as a crossroads of the ancient world. By tracing routes across the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Mediterranean, it illustrated how trade in incense, spices, and other goods enabled exchanges between Arabia and Rome.
Arabia Felix to Rome revealed how the culture of South Arabia was influenced by Rome while also contributing to the Mediterranean world, underscoring Yemen’s historic identity as “Arabia Felix” — a land of prosperity, trade, and cultural interaction.
